The Beat Museum

For Admiral Burns.

I must confess that in recent years I have tried to disassociate myself from my reputation as a Beat fan. However, most recently I have dusted off the Portable Beat Reader, edited by Ann Charters, and began to reexplore the movement that fascinated me so much in my twenties. If I ever make it to San Francisco, and I am sure I will one day, I will put the Beat Museum on my to-do list.
I have reread On the Road recently and am amazed to discover that some of the towns mentioned there by Kerouac are places I pass through often now that I live in the Mid-West. Small towns like Gothenburg and Shelton, Nebraska. This gives the book a very different kind of meaning to me.
Thanks for this Mike.
