Little Mosque On The Prairie

Only a bigot would argue that every Muslim was violent or opposed to Western freedom. But only a coward or a liar would argue that there was not a profound and deeply worrying link between conservative Islam and myriad acts of terror, intolerance and hysterical anger.

It is not I who say this but the countless Muslims who take to the streets at the drop of a cartoon to scream for blood and war; or the Muslims who preach jihad in North America and Europe, where they enjoy open societies founded on Christian enlightenment.

They may represent a minority, but the harm they do is incalculable. This dysfunctional venom does not come from Christian, Jew, Hindu or Buddhist and fatuous relativism will only blind the foolish. It is time for free discussion in this free country, whether it offends or not.

What about the Christian Jihadists of this country? There are the abortion clinic shootings and bombings, and even more relevant, that bunch of rednecks from Kansas (or is it Oklahoma?) who protest at the soldiers' funerals. it may be a different religion, but it is the same mentality.
And, I don't claim to be a liberal when it comes to this. I am a pure elitist. None of these ignorant slobs should have the freedoms that our founding fathers meant for wealthy, land owning, white men.

It is of course true that atrocities have been committed in the name of all the worlds major religions (even Buddhism amazingly enough). Similarly the great secular causes have from time to time racked up some pretty impressive body counts. That’s not really the point. The fact of the matter is that Islamists pointedly threaten those who disagree with them with death and all too often carry out those threats.

It’s commonplace in our society to call an artist “Brave” if he puts a crucifix in a jar of urine. But what has he really risked; his NEA grant? Now, putting a portrait of Mohammed in a jar of urine, that’s brave. The artist might well get killed for that sort of thing. You may recall that the author of the Satanic Verses has been in hiding for twenty years or so. The author of The Last Temptation of Christ has had no similar difficulties.

For evidence of Christian Jihadism you point to abortion clinic bombings and the shooting of abortion providers. It is of course true that this has happened, but my understanding is that when it has occurred every Christian leader of significance has condemned the act, something than cannot be said of Imams.

It’s also worth remembering that attacks on clinics are rare. I spent about an hour on the Justice Department and FBI websites try to figure out when the last one was. The best I could come up with was 1998. If that’s accurate (and it may not be. the sites don’t have a category for abortion clinic bombings so I may have missed a few. I get a chance I’ll check out what NOW and NARAL have to say. No doubt they keep tabs on these things.), it’s not very many in a country of 300 million people. For sake of comparison http://www.thereligionofpeace.com/ claims there have been 10218 terrorist attacks by Moslems since 9/11/01. Now I’ll grant you, that’s a worldwide number but we are talking about a difference that’s measured in orders of magnitude.

I stand corrected. There was a bombing at a clinic in Tacoma, Washington June 11, 2001.There were no injuries.

The last murder of an abortion provider was October 23, 1998 when Dr. Barnett Slepian was shot dead at his home in Amherst, New York. The killer was arrested in France in 2001.

The murder of Dr. Slepain was a tragedy. 10218 terrorist attacks by Moslems is a statistic.
